Once upon a Time in Hollywood... Review

Once upon a Time in Hollywood doesn't intend to be enjoyed by everyone.

In fact a lot of people don't.

This is by far the most imperfect of the movies made by Tarantino.

And yet the most personal and poetic.

It could be defined as his own Sunset Boulevard.

Those who don't know Billy Wilder will probably have a hard time understanding it.

On this occasion the author doesn't need the genre filter to talk about something very personal.

He questions himself much more than he ever did before.

The director goes back home to that Hollywood which was always in his mind.

In his own fairy tale some rules of "the reality we normally perceive" apply and some don't (as always in his films).

This is where the artist emerges: creating a world that thoroughly absorbs you and makes your life more interesting. Provided you know what he is talking about and you understand what Rick, Cliff and Sharon represent.

Thank you Quentin, I hope this is your last movie: you couldn't make a better spiritual testament.

MONNEZZA CAPITALE (Capital Garbage)

Rome is about to collapse due to the garbage overwhelming the city. In addition to the errors of the institutions, are citizens guilty at all?

In una Roma al collasso la domanda principale rimane: quali colpe hanno i cittadini per lo stato delle cose? Maggiori o minori rispetto alle istituzioni?

BUDAPEST: GIMME DANGER

Joe was wandering around the beautiful Budapest without any definite plan: all he knew was a few hours later a flight would take him back.

His entire life was passing in front of him: the uni, the Erasmus, the post graduation, the first Irish life moments, the sliding doors, happiness, sadness, what could have been and was not.

A melancholy feeling crossed him along with the awareness that it’s pointless to look behind.

A wonderful trip was about to end, a new chapter of his life was likely to start knowing only that in life nothing happens as we hope nor as we fear.

Iggy once said  “I don’t wanna be pop, I don’t wanna be punk, I just wanna be”...

He couldn’t agree more

THE MULE

Eastwood means Cinema.

Many directors shoot, others make films,
someone is even capable of good movies.

Clint is something else: he is Pure Cinema.

The Mule, among other things, shows the contradictions of the
United States where very often people do wrong things legally
and right things illegally.
He’s never been politically correct nor is he in
this testament.

Earl feels betrayed by his country and its values.

He never looks for redemption nor for
any kind of catharsis.

The screenplay works perfectly: every time it might
degenerate towards rhetoric it goes right back
on track, giving this anti-hero a humanity that
we hardly ever see in the digital generation.

Lesson clear and understood.

Thank you Clint.
